3 IDP children killed in wall collapse due to heavy rain

Three IDP children were killed and several others including their parents, sustained injuries after a perimeter wall collapsed on their small hut made of cardboard and old rugs inside camp following the heavy rains that have been pounding since last night.

“Three people died while several others were taken to hospital after the wall collapsed on their temporary houses” said witness.

According to reliable sources, the IDPS had reportedly taken shelter in their hut from heavy rain that has hitting been Mogadishu more than seven hours.

However, the grounds surrounding the house became waterlogged, causing a nearby wall to collapse on top of their hut.

The people who were injured in the incident have been admitted in a nearby hospital, two of them are said to be in a critical state.

The rains led to flooding on major roads, which affected movement of people and vehicles.
This is not the first time the rains cause casualties in the city, April 16th this year One of the walls of Erdoğan Hospital, also known as the Digfer Hospital has collapsed on two people leading death of a woman and another escaped with injuries.

The amount of rain water, combined with poor or lack of drainage in the surrounding areas led to back flow of water towards several IDP camps in the city.
