Somali journalist injured in carbomb explosion in Mogadishu

Abdihamid Karzay, an editor at Universal TV, a London based Somali channel has been seriously injured when bomb fitted to his car went off on Sunday morning in Somali capital of Mogadishu, co-worker confirmed Sunday.

Karzay was wounded after a bomb believed to have been attached to his car exploded in Hamarweyn district on Saturday morning, according to Abdiaziz Okay who works for the Channel.

Okay stated that Abdihamid was leaving for work when IED fitted to his car exploded.

He sustained injuries when a devise, suspected to have been attached to a car she was driving, exploded.

“He was taken to Madina Hospital and he is in critical condition,” said Okay.

It is not immediately clear why the journalist was targeted. He is among the dozens journalists attacked in Somalia since 1990.

No group has ever claimed responsibility for targeting Somali journalists.

Few cases have been brought to court in Somalia in connection with the attacks on Somali journalists.

Somalia is considered as the most dangerous place in world for journalists to operate.
