Four hospitalised after taking suspected food poisoning in Sool

Four people were on Wednesday morning admitted to Las-Anod Hospital in Sool region of Northern after taking contaminated food.

The four, who included three women and a man, took the food on Tuesday evening during preparations for a ceremony that took place later that evening at village on the outskirt of Las-Anod town.

The relatives  of the four said the victims started having stomach pains and a headache as they vomited and were took to took to the hospital thinking they had malaria.

“They felt unwell on Tuesday night and thought it was malaria only to be diagnosed with food poisoning,” said one of the relatives.

Some of the patients are said to have vomited at night immediately after taking supper at feast while others had complained of severe abdominal pain.

The medical officer in-charge of Las-Anod Hospital, Mohamed Yussuf who confirmed the admissions, said that the victims suffered food poisoning from the food they had taken but were getting better.
“We admitted about four victims late last night with a similar problem but so far we are planning to discharge some of them and the rest are recuperating,” the officer said.

He warned against consumption of foodstuff that has not been inspected especially milk from infected animal.

“People should desist from taking unclean or uncooked food and milk. They should confirm whatever they want eat so as to avoid such mess,” he said.
