Somalia and US signs agreement to support Somali police reforms

The governments of Somalia and United States have reached an agreement of which the US government will be providing $1.9 million to support Somali  efforts to reform and develop the security sector.

James P. McAnulty, U.S. Special Representative for Somalia signed the agreement with Somali Finance Minister Hussein Abdi Halane in Washington.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Todd Robinson, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs signed the agreement with Somali Finance Minister Hussein Abdi Halane in Washington.

The funding will be provided by the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and will allow the two sides to collaborate in developing the police reforms initiative to enhance the capacity of officials to prevent and effectively respond to crime.

The agreement is intended to support the implementation of policies, procedures, and practices that place citizen services and respect for human rights and its main focus will be to provide support to the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) of the Somali National Police Force.
