AMISOM refutes attack on Adan Adde Airport last night

African Peace-Keeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has refuted reports saying suspected Al-Shabab fighters tried to attack the airport from the India ocean shores last night.

Pual Njuguna, spokesman of AMISOM said their soldiers fired at boats which approaching the offshore but said soldiers were fired back.

“I wouldn’t say an attack but five small boats were noted off  the coast… they were approaching sea front and our guards fired warning shots and they continue approaching so they were fired at” he said.

Mogadishu’s Aden International Airport has not been operational at night times since the collapse of the government of late President Mohamed Siyad Bare in 1991.

At moment, Aden Ade Airport and its compound is the home of number of foreign embassies, AU and UN Representatives.

Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines has suspended its flights to Mogadishu following reports of the attack on Mogadishu’s Adan Adde airport last night.

Turkish Airlines generally runs one flight per day between Istanbul and Mogadishu.
