Somali military court sentence high profile Alshabab communication officer to death
Somali military court has this Thursday sentenced former Alshabab communication director and journalist to death. The Somali military court’s chairman, Hassan Ali Shuute announced the court’s verdict.
The defendant Hassan Hanafi Haji accused to have instructed Alshabab hit squad the killings of 4 Somali veteran journalist including Hornarik and Shebblle Radios directors in the period between 2007 to 2010. He was also accused for blacking and intimating to dozens of Somali journalist. he was given the right to appeal.
In highly watched program in which Somali National Television journalist interviewed him, Hassan admitted that he participated the killings of several journalist.
Hassan was journalist and worked in a number of Mogadishu radio stations before he joined Alshabab fighters and became their entrusted communication office director. Kenyan secret service arrested him in Nairobi, August 2014 and later handed over to Somali Federal Government.
