Five Kenyan police have been killed and four others injured after suspected Al Shabaab gunmen attacked their vehicle between Kotulo and Elwak towns in Mandera County on Monday morning.

Reports indicate that the fighters ambushed the police officers in the village near the Kenya-Somalia border prompting half an hour fighting.

The attacked was confirmed by Mandera Governor Ali Roba and condemned the attack.

“We condemn the attack by Al Shabaab at Dimu this morning where five police officers were killed. The info about their presence was long shared by the locals,” Governor Ali Roba said on his Twitter account.

Roba said information about the presence of the militants in the area had been shared but no action was taken
