Somali commandos destroy Al-shabaab camp in Aw-dhegle- Government

Somali Commandos backed by AMISOM troops have launched ground assaults on an Al-Shabaab base in Southern  Somalia where they destroyed tow camps,office of the president said on Tuesday.

On Monday allied forces attacked the town of Aw-Dhegle, which lies 25 miles (40 kilometers) outside Afgooye town in the Lower Shabelle region, prompting hours of fighting between the sides.

The statement said that commandos from the U.S.-trained Danab unit had the training camps and dislodged the group from the town.

The government did not say the number of Al-Shabaab fighters killed the raid.

“The forces have successfully annihilated a training camp which Al-Shabaab  militias were having trainings, and are in pursuing  their trainers who are taking cover within the vicinity,” said the statement.

Danab comprises two units adding up to 120 men in total, according to officials very close to the Somali National Intelligence Agency, which commands the force.

Al-Shabab have launched almost daily suicide bombings and gun attacks in Somalia since the start of 2016, attacking military, government and civilian targets.

On Tuesday at least 13 were killed including seven UN guards, have been killed after two bomb attacks in Mogadishu.

17 others were wounded in the attack, according to media.

The Al Shabab armed militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.
