Federal parliament approves national child protection act

The federal parliament of Somalia had it is normal meeting in Mogadishu today. The agenda of the meeting including implementation of bills before the parliament and motion filed against the attorney general was distributed to the members.

At least 20 MPs accusing the attorney general of abusing his powers and carrying out detention without order filed motion against him and submitted to the federal parliament.

On the other hand the members of federal parliament unanimously approved a new national Child Protection Act comprising of 54 points.

The act was submitted by Federal government Ministry for women Affairs and human rights.

The out-going minister of women affairs and human rights Khadija Mohamed Diriye said the act focuses on and encourages all stakeholders to work closely together to protect children from neglect and abuse.

The president of the republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to sign the act before it becomes a law.
