Afey: IGAD and international community will continue their support to federal government to ensure vision 2016 is achieved

IGAD’s envoy to Somalia Mohamed Abdi Afey held press conference in Mogadishu on Sunday, shedding light on IGAD’s extra-ordinary ministerial meeting concluded in Mogadishu the ambassador said he is very much delighted to see IGAD foreign ministers meeting in Somalia for the first time since 1985.

He described the federal government’s move of hosting such and an important summit as much admired effort adding that it came with the support of the local peace loving people.

Mr. Afey noted that seeing IGAD ministerial meeting held outside the highly fortified areas as the airport, port and Halane base is a milestone in Somalia’s history showing that Somalia is regaining its long lost stability.

“ This is a vivid picture illustrating that Somalia is standing on its feet after more than two decades of civil strife” ambassador Afey said.

“ It sends clear message to international community that Somalia is not as use to be, it has taken new face” he added.

The ambassador underlined that IGAD and international community will show solidarity and give a helping hand to the federal government of Somalia to ensure that vision 2016 is achieved.

Mr. Afey finally noted that IGAD’s heads of states consultative summit will be held in Mogadishu before the end of the year.

The remarks of the envoy comes one day after IGAD ministerial meeting was concluded in Mogadishu.
