SNA readies for major offensive against Shabaab in HirShabelle

The Somali National Army chief commander of division 27 in HirShabelle region has stated that there are planning to launch airstrikes against Al-Shabaab bases in the region.

Chief Commander of division 27 Major General Mohamud Mohamed Maalin Koronto who have been in the region since last week said that they are having discussions with the Ethiopian and Djiboutian military officials who are in the region as part of AMISOM mission in Somalia to help them to fulfil the airstrikes plan.

Major general Koronto added that in the meantime, they will report back to the Somali government partners that support to launch airstrikes in the Al-Shabab bases.

He also added that they are determined to eliminate Al-Shabaab from HirShabelle region.

Security officials from the Somalia National Army forces have last week visited Beledweyn town the headquater of Hiiran region to supervise the military bases in the town and implement security equipment.

U.S Airstrikes have killed 44 Al-Shabaab militants barely two days on last week in the central Somali region of Mudug.

The U.S. forces have upped strikes against Al-Shabaab in southern and central Somalia with the strikes this year clocking around 30.
