Al-Shabaab agent slapped with 15 year jail term

A military court in Mogadishu has today sentenced a man to 15 years for belonging to Al-Shabaab militant group and planning killings in the city.

The court found Ali Mohamed guilty of planning targeted killings of civilians and government officials.

According to the court, Ali Mohamed was found guilty of belonging to the Al-Shabaab militant group since 2013 after joining the group Saakow a town in Middle Juba region in Somalia.

Ali admitted planning to kill a government official before he was arrested on May 20, 2018 by the police in Benadir region.

The prosecution confirmed that Ali Mohamed was wearing government forces uniform to match at the time of his arrest and he was armed with an AK47 gun and other light weapons.

The prosecution presented before the court weapons and military gear the accused was arrested with.

Meanwhile the court acquitted other suspects namely Adiaziz Sheikh Ali, Abdullahi Subey Omar and Idris Sheikh Ali after it established no evidence to prosecute them on terrorism charges.
