Al-Shabaab attack Buulo-Mareer, Lower Shabelle

Al-Shabaab militants last night attacked Somali National Army (SNA)  military base in Buulo-Mareer town last night, sources have said.

The group engaged in gun battle with government soldiers for hours before they retreated.

Local residents in the town confirmed the attack and said SNA soldiers are still at their base and in control of the town.

One person was confirmed to have died in the fighting while two others have sustained slight injuries according to locals.

Al-Shabaab, which is fighting the southern part of Somalia routinely targets AU forces and government bases in the country.

Buulo Mareer is a town in the southwestern Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
