Al-Shabab Attacks on AMISOM Base in Leego

Heavy fighting erupted between African peace-keeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops and Al-Shabab fighters in Lego locality of Lower Shabelle region.

Al-Shabab fighters have attacked a remote African Union base in the area on Friday morning as the fighting has caused many casualties from both sides.

Reports coming to Goobjoog News indicate that Al-Shabab attacked the base entrance with a suicide car bomb before its fighters began their assault.

Mohammed Haji, an official in the Lower Shabelle region told AP  an estimate of 25 combatants may have been killed, but there was no way to verify his claim.

Al-Shabab vowed it would step up attacks during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
