Five people including four Kenyan soldiers were killed by Al-Shabab fighters in Alwale locality near El-Adde town where Al-Shabab claimed to have killed more than 50 Kenyan soldiers Sunday evening.

Al-Shabab fighters raided a house of a local man who allegedly hid four Kenya soldiers who escaped from the AMISOM military base during El-Adde attack, Sunday evening, sources say.

A witness in the area told Goobjoog News that Al-Shabab fighters broke into the sanctuary and killed the owner of the house and the soldiers.

“Al-Shabab raided the house and tried to go away with the soldiers but argument sparked which led the group to kill the soldiers and the owner of the house” said a local resident who declined his named in fear of reprisal.

Another resident said the soldiers have been hiding in the area since the day Al-Shabab took the control of El-Adde town.

“The soldiers were part of AMISOM troops who fled AMISOM military base where Al-Shabab fighters overran last Friday. One of the local people in area has provided them sanctuary and food but yesterday afternoon several fighters raided the house and killed the four and the owner of the house,” he said.

Al-Shabab killed two soldiers and and several others injured after the group ambushed a Kenyan military convoy Saturday heading to El-Adde town to provide reinforcement.

The move came only two days after Al-Shabab fighters rammed a suicide car bomb into an African Union army base early Friday and stormed inside.

Meanwhile Kenya Defence Force chief Samson Mwathethe said Sunday his forces were on hot pursuit to rescue soldiers captured by Al-Shabaab adding the group could be using the troops as human shields.

“As we speak right now our troops are engaging the terrorists,” Mwathathe said. “We have information to the effect that some soldiers are being used as human shield and we will not allow any further casualties.”
