AMISOM and SNA cede more ground to Alshabab

Storyline:National News

African peacekeeping forces in Somalia AMISOM and Somali National Army have vacated fresh territories in Lower Shabelle in which Alshabab has taken over.

Among the territories AMISOM and SNA ceded to Alshabab are Golweyn and Ambarey, both in close proximity with recently attacked Janale locality.
This is after Alshabab launched a surprise attack on the bases of the army and peacekeepers, forcing them to withdraw for tactical reasons, according to officers.

The fighting has reportedly claimed at least 6 persons and wounded others before the troops withdrew from the area.

Residents raised concern over the takeover fearing for reprisal attacks by Alshabab who normally punish people for collaborating with the government by execution and other cruel methods.

The hard-line armed group has increased attacks on AMISOM and has been gaining ground in recent months.
