The Somali National Army and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) will within the next few days launch the final assault to push-out Al Shabaab from the areas they control in some parts of the country, the Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud said today.

He was speaking after meeting AMISOM, United Nations and Somali government top officials at his office.
President Mohamoud, who was flanked by the Acting Special Representative of African Union in Somalia, Hon Lydia Wanyoto-Mutende said a committee of principals, which he will chair, and another of technical experts, had been formed to ensure that the operations were well organized and coordinated. The committees would also address humanitarian requirements in the newly captured areas.

Hon. Wanyoto-Mutende said AMISOM had put in place a four-point plan to ensure that all the seized areas realised peace dividends through the establishment of interim administrations, infrastructure development and access to food, water and medication.
