At least 300 stakeholders to gather in Mogadishu for Constitutional conference

At least 300 stakeholders from across the country and diaspora will gather tomorrow for the National Constitutional Convention in Mogadishu.

The three days conference which will be launched by President Mohamed Farmaajo is expected to kick-off the constitutional review process. The process will involve chapter by chapter review of the Provisional Constitution based on timelines agreed to stakeholders during various consultation forums across the country, the Constitutional Affairs ministry said.

A source at the ministry of Constitutional Affairs Ministry told Goobjoog News the Federal Member States had agreed on the action plans and the timelines which will now be presented during the Convention.

The review process has been running for the last six years since the eight parliament adopted the Provisional Constitution in 2012 but affected by several challenges among them differences between the various review organs.

A number of articles notably power sharing between the Federal Government and Member states, resources sharing and status of Mogadishu remain contentious and are expected to generate extensive discussions.

Jubbaland state has however indicated it would not be attending the Convention noting it was not briefed on the details of convention.
