Baidoa district commissioner escapes assassination attempt
District Commissioner of Baidoa escaped attempt on life in an attack after bomb buried on roadside hit convoy in eastern Baidoa town.
The DC, Abdullahi Ali who spoke to the reporters after the incident took place said a car he was travelling in, ran over the landmine as he was driving back to Baidoa town from an area in the outskirt of the town.
“I was targeted in a blast near Awdinle area as I heading to Baidoa town. I have escaped the attack unharmed, but three security guards were wounded,” Ali said.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
The group carries out attacks against government and military officials in areas including Hiiraan, Baay and Middle Shabelle regions.
In 2012, government soldiers and AMISOM troops drove Al-Shabaab out of Somalia’s capital city, Mogadishu following a major offensive.
