Bari Cleric association appeal for assistance for people displaced by the cyclone storm

Bari cleric association is appealing for more humanitarian support to help resettle residents displaced by the cyclone storm wreaked and destruction across its path along the vast coast of Puntland.

The chairman of the association, Sheikh Ahmed Yussuf Daad speaking to Goobjoog News said that there was an urgent need to help locals resume normal life after being displaced by the storm.

“Affected coastal areas are in need of emergency supplies of clean water, non-perishable foods, medicines, emergency shelter materials, and blankets” he said.

He added “The community members should help each other during the problems and I assure if donation campaign is carried out, everything goes.”

The clerics have declared their willingness to assist victims hit by the heavy rains in Puntland where more than hundreds of houses have been washed away by flash floods.

“We will carry out initiatives to help those affected” he said.

Sheikh Ahmed said that the most affected areas are coastal towns.

Preliminary information also indicates that homes, buildings and entire villages have been destroyed and over 700 livestock lost, endangering the livelihoods of hundreds of local people. Villagers and nomadic communities remain most affected by the storm.
