Embattled Sudanese President Hassan Omar El-Bashir has been arrested as the military take over power and declared three months state of emergency following months of street protest.

Speaking on state TV, Defence Minister Awad Ibn Ouf said the military will oversee a two-year transitional period  in preparation for elections.

Ouf said Bashir became ‘stubborn’ forcing the military to intervene amid rising tension in the capital Khartoum as protesters remained defiant for months.
