The administration of Yaaqshid district in Banadir region has given reports about the situation of over hundred people hospitalized after drinking water from a contaminated well in the capital.

Yaaqshid district commissioner Osman Mohamed Adawe said most of the affected people are recovering adding that some were discharged after they received treatment.

The commissioner reiterated that the newly dug well that has been closed after the incident to avoid further infection will be re-opened to officially commence its normal service to the residents.

At least 10 people died and more than 10 have been taken to the hospitals after drinking poisonous water from a well in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

Most of victims who died during the incident were children as Benadir regional spokesman Ali Seeko confirmed to the media.

Since the collapse of Central government led by late Said Barre in 1991 most of the water wells fall into the hands of private owners with little quality control measures.
