Benadir administration takes over security responsibility of Mogadishu

Benadir regional administration was handed over the security responsibility of Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital city amid over 20 people were killed in Al-Shabaab’s latest attack carried out on  Friday night.

Speaking after the conclusion of security meeting, chief of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Gen Abdirahman Turyare said  that henceforth the Banadir administration will be in charge of Mogadishu’s security.

“The Banadir region should take responsibility of Mogadishu security, we have to beef up the security of the capital just like any other capital in the world,” said Turyare.

Tuuryare called on the people in the capital to closely work and share information with security agencies to counter terror related cases.

Mogadishu, the metropolis city where an estimated three million people reside, is recuperating from widespread killings and lawlessness that had engulfed Somalia for over two decades.

Somalia’s federal government for the first time disclosed a major shake-up that will affect security agencies in the wake of the deadly Al shabaab car bomb attacks.

The latest such attack yesterday in Mogadishu at the SYL Hotel near the compound of the Presidential Palace, just weeks after the attempt to bring down an aircraft which had just left Mogadishu for Djibouti, has cost at least another 20 lives, 40 civilians to be mourned.

Hundreds of Somali soldiers have erected new security checkpoints across the capital, Mogadishu.
