Car bomb kills 10 people in Mogadishu
At least ten people including police officers and civilians were killed and over 15 wounded in car bomb attack in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu
Saturday’s bombing near the Somalia air force headquarters in Mogadishu caused a huge blast and destroyed car nearby.
“The number of the people who died in the blast reaches over 10 people and 15 others were wounded, most of them lightly,” said Goobjoog News correspondent at the scene.
A resident who was at Suuqabeerta during the explosion said the blast targeted an army car near Afisyoni (former Somali air force headquarters).
“I saw about five bodies lying on the street after explosion, ambulances reached the scene to transport the injured,” said a witness who sought anonymity.
Witnesses and social media users reported hearing a loud explosion in Mogadishu, followed by gunfire.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing but the Islamic extremist group of Al-Shabaab often carries out such attacks.
Police have in the recent past launched several checks in the city ahead of presidential elections which were set for November 30.
