David William Concar- new British ambassador to Somalia

David William Concar takes over as British new ambassador to Somalia in January 2017.

He replaces Harriet Mathews whom the Foreign Office says will proceed to another diplomatic service appointment.

Prior to his appointment as new ambassador to Somalia, Concar was the head of international organisations department and Commonwealth envoy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, FCO.

He joined the foreign office in 2004 and started off as first secretary in Beijing where he served in various capacities as counselor on Science & Innovation Counselor Climate Change and Energy Counselor and as prosperity counselor.

Between 2012 and 2014, Concar was the Head of Climate Change & Energy Department at the FCO.

Concar expressed his delight on being appointed new ambassador  in a tweet.

He will succeed Harriet Mathews who was appointed in March 2015 and took up the position June of the same year.
