Death toll rises in Mecca crane crash

In a developing story the death toll has risen to 87 persons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where a crane has crashed on pilgrims at Grand Mosque of the Islamic Holy city of Mecca.

More than 180 have sustained injuries as authorities struggled to contain the situation after worshipers panicked on hearing the news of the crash.
Ambulances could be seen ferrying bodies as epicenter of the Islamic faith is shaken by this untimely accident.

Pictures circulating on social media showed pilgrims in bloodied robes and masses of debris from a part of the crane that seemed to have crashed through a ceiling.

Mecca is Islam’s holiest site. Pilgrims from around the world have been converging on the city and the mosque for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which starts on September 21.
