Two senior Al-Shabaab members surrender to the government

Two senior Al-Shabaab members have surrendered to Somali federal government security forces in Baardheere district of Gedo region, official says.

National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) of Somalia have identified one of the senior Al-Shabaab officials who have surrendered to the federal government security forces in Gedo region as Adan Coobe.

In a twitter post last evening, the intelligence said Coobe had requested for facilitation to allow him leave the militant group.

The Al-Shabaab official was flown into Mogadishu yesterday from Bardheere in Gedo region and is now under the custody of NISA.

Adan Coobe has been one of the senior officials of Al-Shabaab who served the group in various positions.

Coobe’s defection adds to the list of several senior Al-Shabaab militants who have surrendered to the government in recent years.
