DHUSAMAREB 3: Talks open as Qoorqoor urges Puntland, Jubbaland leaders to attend

Storyline:National News

The third round of electoral talks opened in Dhusamareb Monday night with calls on the leaders of Jubbaland and Puntland to attend the talks.

While officially opening the third round of the talks, host president Ahmed Qoorqoor called on his Jubbaland and Puntland counterparts to attend the talks noting Somalis were ‘sufficient’ to ensure implementation of the talks outcome.

Qoorqoor was reacting to separate statements issued both by Ahmed Madobe (Jubbaland) and his Puntland counterpart Abdullahi who called on the international community to attend the talks to ‘guarantee the implementation of the outcome’.

“Puntland Government deems important the participation of the International Community representatives at the Dhusamareb 3 Conference in order to act as guarantors for implementation of the conference outcome,” Deni earlier said.

But the Galmudug leader assured the meeting that all agreements reached shall be implemented fully urging his counterparts to attend the talks.

“I want to assure you that we are waiting for our brothers who are absent and we are ready,” said Qoorqoor.

He added that he had received information that Madobe was sick and seeking treatment in Kenya.

He said he was satisfied with the report of the Technical Committee having engaged them ahead of the formal rounds.

Both Jubbaland and Puntland boycotted the Technical Committee accusing the Federal Government of circumventing the process.

The meeting which is also attended by President Farmaajo and leaders from South West, HirShabelle is expected to agree on a electoral model to be used in the upcoming elections.
