Diarrhoea outbreak kills three in Likooley

Diarrhoea--JowharReports from Gedo region state that outbreak of diarrheal disease in Likooley, village has left the available health posts overcrowded.
At Least three children were confirmed dead due to diarrhoea outbreak in village which is located 80km east of Elwak town, as confirmed by Abdi Hussein, health officer in Likooley area.
“Last week the disease has killed three children, under the age of five, as more than 15 people were hospitalised” he said.
He added “The residents are lacking facilities such as proper healthcare and additional to that new cases of diarrheal disease are reported hour after hour”
He confirmed to Goobjoog FM that the death of the three children is due to contracting waterborne diseases after drinking contaminated water.
Amina Ahmed, a mother living in Likooley village expressed concern over the health situation of residents of the village.
“There are no medical facilities in the village, the situation of the people is terrorising one, the health workers who were volunteers have stop their work due to lack of medicine” Ahmed said.

 

She urged the federal government of Somalia, local and international humanitarian aid agencies and Diaspora Somali community to deliver emergency support to Likooley residents
