GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Monday dispatched his National Security Advisor to Mogadishu where he held talks with President Mohamed Farmaajo in a bid to secure regional support amid an escalating war in the Tigray region.

Gedu Andargachew met with Farmaajo Monday but there was no comment from Villa Somalia on the meeting. However, Ethiopia’s ambassador to Somalia Jamaludin Mustafa confirmed the meeting and shared a photo on his Twitter account.

The ambassador said Andargachew briefed president Farmaajo ‘on the status of the ongoing Law enforcement operation in Northern Ethiopia.’

The meeting comes amid calls on the Ethiopian government to tone down its military operations and protect civilians, most of whom have been marooned in the warfare between the federal forces and forces allied to TPLF.

Andargachew has since visited Djibouti and Sudan while  Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen was this past week in Kenya and Uganda in what analysts say is Abiy’s push for regional engagement to block the intervention of the African Union.
