Ex-Somalia Minister elected as the new president of Puntland state

Said Abdullahi Deni, a former minister of planning in Somalia is semi-autonomous declared as the new President of Puntland State of Somalia.

Said Abdullahi Deni who acquired 35 votes in the 3rd round was declared the winner after defeating Asad Osman Abdullahi in the 3rd round with 31 votes and knocked down 20 other presidential candidates including the former Puntland state president Abdweli Mohamed Ali Gas who was knocked down in the first round with only 8 votes.

Said Abdullahi Deni was a former Minister of Planning and a member parliament of the federal government of Somalia.

The voting has kicked off early Tuesday in Garowe town Puntland’s administrative capital, where 66 members of the Puntland state were electing the president of the state.

Puntland declared its territory an autonomous state in 1998 but is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia.
