EXCLUSIVE: Kenya back to ICJ for more time in maritime case
Kenya is petitioning the International Court of Justice for more time ahead of the public hearing of the maritime case with Somalia about two weeks after the global court granted a two months extension.
A source privy to the developments at the Hague based court has intimated to Goobjoog News Kenya which has consistently sought at out of court settlement is filling another appeal to allow for more time.
The source said lawyers representing Kenya were already filing their prayers at the Court as the two months extension is set to lapse in less than one and a half months.”Somalia is awaiting communication from the Court about the new development,” the source who sought anonymity told Goobjoog News.
The ICJ allowed Kenya’s petition last month but cut off ten months from what the East African nation had sought. Kenya wanted 12 months but the Court cut it to two months. It had argued it needed more time to recruit a new defence team.
Somalia has fervently stood ground against Kenya’s requests for an out of court settlement noting it has confidence in the UN court.
According to the new timelines, the case is set for mention November 4.
