Exclusive: President Farmajo Appoints 3 New Ambassadors

Storyline:National News

Reliable sources informed Goobjoog News that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has appointed three new ambassadors.

They are as follows:

  1. Jama Abdullahi Mohamed (Jama Aidiid) appointed as the Somali Ambassador to Turkey. Mr. Jama is novice in the Somali political arena especially in the Diplomatic circle. He was among the presidential campaign team of President Farmajo. There were expectations earlier he would be given a position in the government of PM Hassan Khaire.
  1. Abdirahman Yussuf Ali Ainte appointed as the Somali Ambassador to UK. Ainte was a former Minister of Planning and Cooperation in the government of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He was a key figure in President Farmaajo’s inauguration team.
  1. Abukar Dahir Osman (Baale) appointed as the Somali Ambassador to the United Nations. Abukar was the Director of the Somali Villa for 3 months only. He was also a Director in the Office of the Prime Minister Farmaajo during the reign of former President Sharif Sh. Ahmed.

The President resorted to the act of Foreign Security Law that permits the President of Somalia to appoint directly 10% of the Somali Ambassadors outside the country and the remaining 90% has to be approved by the Somali Cabinet Ministers.

Labour Law of Foreign Affairs Act 11:

Appointing Political Ambassadors (Political Appointee):

“The President of Somalia, if there is a national need, after listening to the Foreign Minister, can appoint an ambassador (maximum 10%) who is very crucial to fill the conditions of being suitable to be a  worker in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Diplomat as indicated in Acts 3 and 4 of the Constitution.”

Therefore, in respect to the limited numbers of the ambassadors that can be appointed by the President of Somalia, it’s apparent that he used the acceptable quantity under the constitution that empowers him to appoint the three new ambassadors.

However, when viewed under the microscopic lens of the tribal sharing of the national cake of the federal government, it can open the way for strong disoriented voices from the tribes that were left out in the diplomatic appointments.
