Explosions and Gun Fire Rocks Shibbis

A Suicide bomber riding on a vehicle has blown himself followed by heavy gun fire near the headquarted of Somalia National Intellegence and Security Agency in Shibbis district of Mogadishu.

The explosion could be heard throughout the city in the early hours of Sunday, as fighting raged for close to 30 minutes afterwards.

Alshabab rebels who vowed to strike during the month of Ramadan were behind these attacks according to government spokesman and their own spokesman.

Sources said that the fighters did not manage to hit the intended target, instead targeted an empty garage casually used by NISA.

Government has tightened the security around the city with hundreds of soldiers including peacekeepers mounting roadblocks on the main roads.
