Somalia Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid has told parliament that there would ‘not be one man, one vote’ election in Somalia, come 2016.

Speaking during a meeting with parliament’s top decision making body together with members of cabinet’s political committee to discuss ways to proceed ahead beyond 2016, the PM said the modalities for universal suffrage were not viable at the moment as the country needed to adequately prepare.

According to Goobjoog News parliamentary reporter, the committee is proposing that regional states should be given a say about 2016 and to conduct credible transition of power.

The PM said that his government would embark on wide ranging consultations of the form of election to be held in 2016 and would act on the recommendations.

The parliament speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari also agreed yesterday on the same formula regarding the 2016 polls.
