Federal member of parliament gun down in Mogadishu, Somalia

A member of the federal Parliament has been yesterday evening shot dead in the capital Mogadishu.

Unknown gunmen armed with pistols have assassinated Osman Elmi Boqore the oldest MP of the current parliament in Karaan district of north capital Mogadishu.

Witness told the media that the gunmen have immediately escaped from the scene.

Al-Shabaab group have claimed the responsibility for the assassination of the MP as also they previously carried out such targeted killings in the capital.

The Veteran MP, Osman Elmi Boqorre who was assassinated yesterday in Mogadishu was a former deputy speaker of Parliament and oldest member in current Lower House of Parliament and formerly he was a major in the Somali army who fought in 1964 Somali, Ethiopia war in which he was wounded.

Security official investigations are still underway and still, Somali federal government is yet to comment on the incident.

Recently, there have been a series of killings targeting government officials Mogadishu.

Al-Shabaab lost control of Mogadishu to African Union (AU) force in 2011 but has continued to carry out bombings and assassinations in the city.
