FGS in collusion with Ethiopian forces in breach of country’s sovereignty- FNP

The opposition coalition, Forum for National Parties (FNP) has called for the withdrawal of Ethiopia forces outside the AMISOM command in Somalia accusing them of gross violation of Somalia’s territorial sovereignty through intimidation and arrest of public officials in Gedo region.

FNP said in a statement Saturday the Ethiopian forces outside AMISOM framework were operating illegally in the country and in apparent cahoots with the Federal Government.

“It is very unfortunate that the Ethiopian forces seized public officials in Beled Hawo, Dolow and Luuq forcing them to go against the legitimate rule of Jubbaland State and causing a rift among the security forces in the region,” the statement read in part.

FGS COLLUSION

According to the coalition, in one instance, the Ethiopia forces prevented the Jubbaland Vice President from completing an upcoming visit to Beled-Hawo. “It looks as though the federal government which is supposed to protect the sovereignty and independence of the country is an accomplice to these various violations against the people and the country,” the coalition said.

Noting that the Ethiopia forces had previously been at the bidding of the federal government to interfere with the elections in Jubbaland and South West, the coalition called on the federal government to come clean on the activities of the Ethiopian forces in the country.

The coalition said the situation in Gedo formed part of the talks with President Farmaajo last week. “It was mutually agreed that the situation in Jubbaland should be handled in a careful manner with a mindset open for negotiation and resolution.”

“FNP calls on the Ethiopian federal government to withdraw its non-AMISOM forces from the Somali territory, stay away from the differences between Somali politicians as well as adhere to the principles of good neighbourliness and respect for the sovereignty of other nations.”
