Defense chief survives attack, 5 soldiers killed in explosion near Defense HQs

At least five military personnel have been killed in a bomb explosion reportedly targeting the new military chief Ahmed Mohamed Irfiid near the defense headquarters in Mogadishu.

Sources at the scene have told Goobjoog News the explosives laden hit a military truck carrying the chief of defense forces Irfiid but he survived the attack. Irfiid was elevated to the new position three days ago by President Mohamed Farmaajo in a major security shake-up.

The attack happened at a location between the military academy and the ministry of defence headquarters in Hodan district, Mogadishu.
