FMS leaders calls alternative model other than one person one vote election system

The federal member state government leaders have ruled out one person one vote system in the upcoming election of 2021 in Somalia.

According to a joint statement released by FMS called for an alternative, inclusive model that allows the upcoming election to take place within the scheduled time.

The leaders of the regional states invited the president of the federal government, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and his prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre to held further consultative meetings to agree the most appropriate way forward to run election process.

The leaders of the states and the national political parties rejected the National Independent Election Commission statement on election extension last week.

The leaders held a 3-day conference focused on election mandate and the relationship between the federal government and regional states in the capital Galmudug Dhusamareeb.
