Following severe drought that hit many places in Somalia’s Sool region, the administration of Sool region have distributed rice, beans and vegetable oil for up to 200 displaced families in Kalbardaley village and its surrounding areas.

The beneficiaries from all walks of life waited in long queues at an open field to receive food aid.

Sheikh Said Adare, who is from Sool Drought Respond Committee (SDRC) said they aim at providing food for some 200 families suffering from severe food shortages.

Adare said temporary water distribution points were established and water trucking was provided.

It is the first time aid has been delivered to the village by the administration.

Authorities in Somalia have failed to address the situation despite calling for International aid organisations to intervene. But there has been little attention from the humanitarian agencies.

Elder Omar Ali, who was among residents giver the food aid, has described the drought as one of the worst to have hit the region in recent times, adding that the disaster had caused a lot of human suffering.
