Galmudug finance ministry to create jobs for youth

Struggling to tackle the high unemployment rates in Galmudug regional State, deputy minister for finance, Mohamed Ahmed Farah said his ministry will address the problem of youth unemployment and create jobs for youths in Galmudug.

Farah highlighted that they are carrying out an initiative  which aims to create hundreds of jobs in the hope of reducing poverty and economic grievances among youth in the State.

“We have skilled labour in this state and we want to scale that labour up not only for local consumption but also for international use. We don’t want our youth languishing in the villages without work,” said Farah.

He said the  government, for instance, plans to introduce tax rebates to businesses that hire fresh graduates.

Ahmed Abdi whose son has been without formal employment since he graduated from university with a degree in business administration two years ago.

“We want the government to make it easier for young people to get jobs or to set up their own businesses,” he said.

Somalia which is recovering from decades of war is struggling to rebuild amid security challenges posed by Al Shabab group which is waging a deadly guerilla warfare across large parts of central and southern Somalia.

Hundreds of Somali youths who could have seek jobs from the government offices fear to became target for Al-Shabaab fighters who severally warned people against governments jobs.

According to a report by the World Bank, Somalia is gradually raising political stability, marking a turnaround for the country ravaged by over two decades of civil war since 1991 which had destroyed the country’s entire infrastructure, forcing the impoverished nation to start picking up pieces from the scratch.
