Galmudug Speaker Asir defiant as impeachment motion rolls on

Galmudug state assembly speaker Ali Asir has dismissed attempts to impeach him terming them calculated efforts at violating the constitutional rights of the people of Galmudug.

Reacting to the impending motion which his deputy Hared Ali confirmed receipt in Dhusamareb Tuesday, Asir who has been at loggerheads with state president Ahmed Haaf said he is legitimately elected and will not bow to pressure to resign.

“Out of 89 MPs in Galmudug, no MP has brought a motion against the speaker of parliament but what is coming out of Dhusamareb is simply stupid and aimed at destroying the constitution right of Galmudug which have already been weakened by President Haaf.

Deputy speaker Ali said Tuesday he had received a motion to impeach Asir and would be debated Wednesday.

Galmudug parliament is fractured into two factions. One faction is allied to president Haaf and is based in Dhusamareb while another faction led by Asir is based in Adado.

The Assembly is expected to deliver its verdict today.
