Germany celebrate world cup victory over Argentina as Mario Götze scores the winning goal for his country in extra time beating Argentina 1-0 in the final match and taking the team to the fourth world cup title

The prime minister of Germany Angela Merkel congratulates Mario Götze who attained the only goal on the 113th minute of the hotly contested match.

Mario Götze, Bayern Munich star came on a substitute to net the winner, controlling the ball with his chest before volleying it into the Argentine goal, making the Germans the first European team to win the title in South America.

Argentina lost many chances that if handled well could render champions, Gonzalo Higuain and Germany defender Benedikt Howedes before half-time.

German fans stayed in their positions more than an hour after the final whistle as the victorious side indulged in lengthy celebrations of a win that vindicated the rebuilding plan put in place when they suffered the humiliation of going out of Euro 2004 at the group stage, which resulted in then coach Rudi Voller’s resignation.
