Goobjoog FM marks three years of professional journalism

Storyline:Archive, National News

GJ Fm LogoThree years ago this day the first signal of Goobjoog FM 88.5 hit the airwaves in Mogadishu with a pledge for dedicated service to public service journalism.

With its motto, Always loyal to the public the station set its sights on not just revolutionizing radio practice in Somalia but also taking the front seat in shaping the country’s future through authoritative, informative and educative programmes which have over the time have been the station’s staple.

History in the making

The inception of Goobjoog FM on July 14, 2012 significantly came at a critical point in Somalia’s history- a time when the drafters of the New Provisional Constitution were crossing the T’s and dotting I’s of the document which would usher in the Federal Government of Somalia as the Transitional Federal Government was to bow out in exactly 36 days’ time.  The TFG’s mandate ended in August 20, 2012 as the first permanent central government in Somalia after over two decades of conflict came into existence the same day.

Over the time, Goobjoog FM has lived to its motto and mandate through quality and professional programming, unmatched authoritative reporting and has always given a voice to the less listened to and championed their interests without compromising on professional and ethical standards.

Gurmad and Gargar

Notable in this quest among others is the Refugee Repatriation Programme dubbed Gurmand and Gargar which saw Goobjoog mobilise resources from the private and public sector towards the rescue of Somalis stuck in Yemen following the on-going conflict. Goobjoog has also dispatched two of its reporters on board the ships transporting returnees for the last two months now.

To ensure a wider outreach both locally and internationally, Goobjoog has expanded and upgraded its infrastructure by setting up bureaus in Baladweyne, Galkacyo and recently Adado. In addition, Goobjoog is now transmitting to its global audiences via satellite and the Goobjoog Mobile App besides robust Somali and English portals, www.goobjoog.com.

In marking three years of exemplary and professional journalism, we stand by our overarching call to unequivocal loyalty to our audience.
