Government forces and AMISOM launch security operations in Mogadishu

OperationsFederal government forces and African union peace-keeping troops have launched security crack-down in some districts of the capital, Mogadishu earlier today.

The affected districts during the security crackdown include Howl Wadag and Hodan in the heart of the city.

Government forces were seen making door to door searches and asking different questions to the residents while AMISOM troops were blocking the main roads entering the districts where the operations are actively going on.

The operations in the city has interfered with public transport forcing the business people to go on foot to their premises hence curtailing business activities.

Un specified number of people mostly youth were arrested in today’s operations.

Government forces declined to give comments about the ongoing operations but a security officer who spoke on a condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to talk to media said the operations are part of government plan dubbed “ break your fast with peace”

The newly appointed police commissioner Gen. Mohamed Hassan who took power yesterday said in a statement police forces will take new steps of maintain the security of the country especially Mogadishu.
