The government will soon kick off the reconstruction of government buildings across the country and rebuild roads to open the regions and spur economic growth, Prime Minister Hassan Khaire has said.

Speaking Wednesday night in South West state capital of Baidoa, the PM said his administration was determined to extend government services to many parts of the country noting that the government had gained international confidence to allow increased direct donor financing.

“We expect to relaunch projects soon in the country among them building roads and government structures both at federal and regional levels,” the PM said.

Khaire sounded up beat highlighting his government’s efforts to stabilize the country’s economy since it came to power early in the year. “In the 8 months we have been in power, we shall reach in December 2017 smoothly as we are informed by IMF and the World Bank due to the work we have done to overcome difficult steps,” the PM said.

“We shall be trusted with income [donor fund] because of the work we have achieved that was earlier not foreseeable. For time we have been in government we have managed to secure economic assistance that will be administered by the Somali government.”

The PM’s visit to Baidoa comes barely a week after a visit to Barawe where he announced plans to revamp the port city and make it a viable business city.

His host, South West president Sharif Hassan Adan called on the Federal Government to open up the road connecting Baidoa and Mogadishu noting Al-Shabaab fighters have been extorting levies from road users.

“People in Lower Shebelle are the worst affected people because many of them cannot afford a flight to Mogadishu. Mr. Prime Minister, I would like you to address this matter whether to use military or other means. Lower Shebelle region is sufficient for the whole country but anti-peace elements are troubling the people” said Adan
