Gulf Crisis: Khartoum turns down strong demand from Saudi and Its allies against Qatar

On Friday, the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt discussed with the Foreign Minister of Sudan on the predicament in the Gulf region.

Sudan government took neutral stand in the diplomatic standoff in the Gulf region; appealed for the disagreements to be mitigated; displayed its sadness and anxiety towards the problems in the Arab world.

Earlier reports indicate that the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt requested to meet with the Foreign Minister of Sudan in order to make clear the decision of his government on the Gulf crisis especially after the release of the lists of 59 persons and 12 companies who are based in Qatar are specifically accused to be part of terrorism.

The diplomatic crisis in the Gulf region has worsened after Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt countries cut diplomatic ties with Qatar at the beginning of this month. They imposed trade embargo on land, air and ocean against Qatar government accusing it of supporting terrorists groups which it denies.

Last Friday the Foreign Minister of Sudan Ibrahim Gandor met with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt in his office according to the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Sudan.

The spokesperson for Sudan Foreign Ministry mentioned that a press release from the Ministry affirmed the decision of Sudan towards Gulf crisis and its role to strengthen the support and sanctity to preserve Arab unity.

The Ambassadors expressed their appreciation of the hospitality accorded to them by the Sudan Foreign Minister on their one day official visit.

Moreover, the Foreign Minister of Sudan met with the Egyptian Ambassador in Sudan and discussed on the importance to widen further their relationship touching on various sectors on development.
