Heavy downpour pounds Jowhar and its environs

Heavy rains continue to be experienced in some parts of Somalia, resulting in floods in several areas and affecting the lives of the people and livestock weakened by prior drought.

Residents of Jowhar have last night witness heavy downpour with strong wind of which people said has fear and concern among the residents.

This morning many people mostly business men and students were seen walking in the flooded streets of the town following recent heavy rains that swept away many makeshift homes of vulnerable IDPs in the town.

The heavy rainfall comes a time when much higher than normal rains in the last third of 2015, resulting from the El Niño climate phenomenon are expected to rain.

The torrential rains are expected between September and December in most areas, but will extend to February next year in some parts of the greater Horn of Africa region, according to UN reports
