Heavy fighting between Al-shabab and joint forces embarks in Barawe district earlier this morning as residents confirmed to the media.

The clashes started after Al-shabab attacked the bases of federal government forces and AMISOM troops who seized the town on Sunday.

The residents say sounds of heavy artillery used by both  sides was heard all over the town.

The governor of Lower Shabelle region Abdikadir Mohamed Noor Sidii who spoke to BBC Somali services said the joint fired bullets towards the beach after they suspected the presence of Al-shabab in the area.

Al-shabab has declined to give immediate comment about this clash with the joint forces in Barawe district.
