Heavy presence of security forces in Bosaso town, Puntland

Puntland administration has deployed large number of troops in Bosaso town, headquarter of Bari region, Puntland state for the past 2 days.

Top state officials have disclosed the move behind the military buildup in the Red sea coastal and port hub town.

Speaking to the media, commissioner of Bari eastern region, Mohamed Yussuf Waeys noted the security forces are only meant for restoring peace in the town.

“Today we have new multitude of forces here to restore security in the town and its surroundings. We request the public to work with them. This town is the main commercial town of Puntland that needs peace” said Commissioner Wayes.

Similarly Puntland state minister for Ports and Marine Transport Engineer Said Mohamed Rage said the new forces in the town are meant to deal with firmly the local trouble markers in Puntland.

“Development is on progress as per the strategies of the [state] government and no one can stop it. I want to inform the demonstrators to take part in keeping peace and investments in the country. Business people who gained interest need to extend it to the local poor people. There is no new fine imposed on the trucks” State Minister Rage said.

Several days of protests took place in Bosaso town in mid November over increased rate in the port service which led to temporarily closure of the port facility and services.

Dubai based company DP Word was awarded the contract of running the port by Puntland administration in early October this year.
